Sky trade Angel Reese in stunning move before WNBA season begins: reports

Chicago Sky trade Angel Reese to Atlanta Dream

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese was traded to the Atlanta Dream on Monday as WNBA free agency opened, multiple reports stated. The Sky will receive first-round draft picks in 2027 and 2028 in exchange. NBA on Prime broadcaster Taylor Rooks first reported the deal.

The transaction marks one of the first major offseason moves after the WNBA and its players' union reached a verbal agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement. The Sky selected Reese seventh overall in the first round of the 2024 WNBA Draft from LSU, where she won a national championship as part of the same draft class as Caitlin Clark.

Reese posted 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game over 34 outings in her 2024 rookie season, earning All-Star honors, a runner-up finish in Rookie of the Year voting and one MVP vote. She appeared in 30 games during her second season, averaging 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds despite missing some time. The Sky missed the playoffs in both of Reese's seasons and have now had three head coaches across those two years.

Atlanta finished the previous season with the league's best record at 30-14 but fell in the first round of the playoffs to the Indiana Fever. The Dream face free agency decisions involving Allisha Gray, Brittney Griner, Jordin Canada and Brionna Jones, with Rhyne Howard as a restricted free agent.
