Yankees' Chisholm debunks AirPods in viral field photos

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. addressed viral photos suggesting he wore an AirPod while playing in the field. The 28-year-old explained it was cotton placed in his ear to ease an earache from a ground ball that struck his head during the team's win over the Texas Rangers on Monday. Chisholm took the grounder to the head after it kicked off his glove.

Chisholm told The Athletic the injury caused ringing in his right ear for three days and an earache that lasted three or four days. He struggled to hear from that ear and used AirPods with noise-cancellation in the clubhouse to block sounds. He has missed no games and said the issue did not affect his play.

As online discussion grew, Chisholm posted on his Instagram Story to clarify, captioning the image: "All y’all just ain’t the smartest," with a shrug and laughing emoji. He called the AirPods assumption "not smart," noting umpires and coaches would not allow electronics on the field and that AirPods could not extend that far into the ear.

Chisholm holds a .205 batting average this season with three home runs, 10 RBI and nine stolen bases. He described his early-season start as slow but recent improvement.
